Salt for Ulcerative Colitis – Healthy or not? (A Research Article)

Overconsumption of salt for Ulcerative colitis is injurious. Here, I have compiled some facts that how salt can affect you in Ulcerative Colitis. When you change your eating habits, then it is essential to keep a close eye on the number of nutritional facts present in the food.

Your doctor must have told you that you should stay away from fat, sugar and junk food but what about the salt which we take in each of our meals?

 

How Salt Works in the Body?

Facts 1

In most of the cases, when you consume more salt you put your kidney in trouble. It is a problem for your blood circulatory system to keep up an enormous amount of salt in circulation.

Fact 2

The body tries to dilute the concentration of salt in the body so it holds water inside so that the amount of salt can stay close to the normal proportion of water.

Fact 3

It results in an increase in the amount and volume of blood inside your body and becomes a reason for weight gain too.

 

How Salt Affects Ulcerative Colitis?

  – Researches have proved that an increased amount of salt in your food will leave the worst impacts on autoimmune encephalomyelitis and colitis in animals.

 – Although the whole mechanism is still not fully understood, yet it is sure that high salt intake accelerates the complications in experimental colitis.

 – The high salt level in your body leaves negative effects on your immune system and weakens your body to fight against the disease.

 – A high salt concentration in your diet becomes a reason for the alternation of your gut microbiota composition which retards the formation of protective butyrate.

 – In advance experimentation, it has been observed that animals on a High Salt Diet (HSD) got increased inflammation.

 – Although salt is bad for an Ulcerative Colitis patient, yet the situation will be worst if you are a person whose age is 50+ and you are a patient of slightly high blood pressure. 

 – You should use less salt in your diet if you are either a diabetic patient along with a genetic history of Ulcerative Colitis.

 

Conclusion

It is highly recommended to keep yourself at a bay when it comes to the consumption of salt especially when you are facing some serious health condition. Himalayan Salt is a better option to use instead of table salt.

You should also take exercise and practice Yoga to live an active and longer life.
